The death of hundreds of fish in the Segura river close to its mouth in Guardamar may have been caused by eutrophication, the process which is slowly killing the Mar Menor.
People visiting beaches to the north and south of the river mouth have complained that large numbers of dead fish are washing up on the shore, reaching as far away as La Mata in Torrevieja.
